Finally updating & new Dixieland Acres website

I'm finally updating my blog! I can't believe it has been so long since I've posted. I've been busy with all the animals - we're up to 18 goats right now. We also finished out the 4-H year with the Chesapeake Livestock show & sale -- it was a busy time but Danielle did awesome! It was hard on her having to auction off her 1st hog & goat - but she handled it well.

Her 1st year results:
*Grand Champion overall breeding doe
*1st place yearling breeding doe
*2nd place doeling breeding doe
*5th place market goat
*Reserve Champion / 2nd place novice goat showmanship
*3rd place market hog
*Grand Champion / 1st place novice hog showmanship

I also finished our farm website - you can check it out at dixielandacres.com - check it out if you have a minute.

Will be posting with some of the layouts I've the last couple months but haven't posted yet.

Dixieland Acres

We decided on a name for our little farm - Dixieland Acres - in memory of my grandmother, Dixie, who gave us the land. She was an amazing woman & is definitely missed.

Here is the current tally at "Dixieland Acres":

Goats - 4 boer goats

2 peacocks - Sapphire & Priscilla

26 Chickens & 1 rooster named Lucky

4 guinea hens (our feathered "watch dogs")

6 ducks (3 Pekin & 3 Muscovy)

2 dogs (George & Rex)

3 cats - Marshmallow, Gizzy & Patches (plus a stray that's trying to take up residence outside)

Well - that's it for Dixieland Acres for now. We'll be adding 2 more goats in about a week & 2 hogs next month (Danielle will be showing one of the hogs in the 4H sale & show in May).

My Sketch World January Sketch

I loved working with the January sketch by Lucy for My Sketch World. Here is my take on the sketch:

Completed Projects - goat shelter & play area

We've been busy building shelters, pastures, etc. around here. We've completed the 1st goat pasture along with 2 separate penning areas, a play area for the goats, a 2 stall shelter, and have almost completed the hog pen.
Here are a couple photos of the 1st completed goat shelter & the "play" area.

2 more additions - Boer goats

I'm really behind updating my blog. I don't know where the time goes. Seems like any free time is spent working on pastures & shelters. :)

We've added 2 more boer goats: Lars & Nellie.

Lars is a boer wether & will be Danielle's market goat for the 4H show & sale in May. We got him from the Mindeman's & he has the same sire as Felicity.

Nellie is a % boer doeling and will be another breeding do. Nellie came from Rob Fletch at Bayside Boers & has the same sire as Ginger.

I had the opportunity to be a contributer at http://gotsketch.blogspot.com/ for Valerie Salmon's sketch #70. Valerie's sketches are fantastic & I loved working with this one. Make sure to check out her blog for the latest contest - use sketch #70 & upload it to the Got Sketch? blog gallery for a chance to win prizes.

Here's my take on the sketch:

These are photos of the baby ducks Danielle got from the Virginia state fair in October.

Boer Goats - our newest additions!

We have 2 new additions to our family - Gingersnap & Felicity. Gingersnap came from Bayside Boer Goats in Elizabeth City, NC - she's about 8 months old & is Danielle's first breeding doe. Gingersnap is a purebred Boer.

Felicity came from the Mindeman's - she's about 2 months old & such a sweetie. She will also be a breeding doe & is a Boer/Nubian cross. Danielle is thrilled with her girls!! :)
